By pairing students with real-life customers, the practicum gives the students an opportunity to transfer their new knowledge and skills into practice, allows them to demonstrate individual capabilities, and enables them to reflect on their program overall. The topic of the practicum consists of a detailed examination of one aspect of software engineering. The specifics are worked out between the sponsoring companies, CMU faculty, and the students.
