Prerequisites: Managerial experience that has included responsibility for directing the work of others is preferred, or functional responsibility for some aspect of human resources management. This course enables the student to understand the role of human resources management in the attainment of organizational goals. The full scope of human resources activities will be examined, including: employee selection, performance management, compensation and benefits, labor and employee relations, and HR information and audit systems. Emphasis will be placed on developing the analytical skills to formulate organizational policy. Additionally, students will learn to analyze human resource problems and apply principles of human resources management in designing solutions. Differences in public and private sector approaches and unionized versus non-unionized settings will be explored. Guest lecturers with expertise in various areas will be included.
