We explore how new firm creation promotes the development and commercialization of emerging technologies. Entrepreneurship is increasingly seen as critical for capitalizing on research and engineering, as well as for building a region's economy. Topics include how start-ups earn economic profits, how/why regions prosper from local start-ups, the role of universities and researchers, and the impact of start-up financing. In addition, this class includes a practicum where students will be able to analyze the opportunity for actual technologies developed at Carnegie Mellon.
