Why has religion so often been associated with violence? How can groups divided by religion achieve tolerance and respect for one another? In this course we will approach such questions by studying three historical situations: the wars of religion in the 16th and 17th centuries, the Northern Ireland conflict, and the contemporary problem of Islamic militancy.
