Rehabilitation Engineering involves the application of engineering sciences to design, develop, adapt and apply assistive technologies to problems confronted by individuals with disabilities in functional areas, such asmobility, communications, hearing, vision, and cosnition, and in activities associated with employment, independent living, education, and integration into the community. It differs from classical biomedical engineering by its focus on improving the quality of people's lives, rather than improving their medical treatment. This course will require participation in simulations of disabilities and projects to develop new technologies. Pre-requisite: None, but 42-202 Physiology is useful. Junior or Senior status or permission of instructor.
