With about 2 billion mobile phone users worldwide, including several hundred million mobile Internet users, new wireless and pervasive computing applications and services are changing the way enterprises interact with both their customers and their employees. The explosion in smart phone ownership along with the growing popularity of WLAN technologies and the deployment of 2.5G and 3G networks is leading to a slew of new Internet applications and services. They range from mobile commerce services to wireless enterprise applications all the way to more futuristic pervasive computing scenarios. Topics covered include: Mobile Communications (2.5G, 3G, WiFi, WiMax, etc.), Mobile Internet technologies, Mobile and Wireless Security, Mobile Payments, Mobile Commerce (e.g. Mobile Entertainment, Mobile Banking, etc.), Location-Based Services, RFID, Mobile Enterprise Applications, Pervasive Computing Applications. Discussions cover technologies, usability, business models and policy issues (e.g. privacy). The course also provides an overview of future trends and ongoing research in this new and fast growing area.
